Muskoka Cottage Drawings

Elevation Drafting and Design is a full-service design and drafting company with a passion for wood structures. We have a team of experienced professionals with a proven track record of success in designing and building timber frame structures. We were recently approached by a local craftsman near Burksfalls, Ontario to help design and provide full architectural drawings for a timber framed cottage. We were excited about the opportunity to work with this craftsman, as we had heard great things about his work.

We worked closely with the craftsman and the structural engineer to develop a design that met the client’s needs and budget. We also took the time to understand the local building codes and regulations, so that we could ensure that the design was compliant. Once the design was finalized, we provided the craftsman with full architectural drawings. These drawings included detailed plans, elevations, and sections. The drawings also included a bill of materials, which helped the craftsman to accurately estimate the cost of construction.

The project was a success, and the client was very happy with the final product. We were able to bridge the gap between the craftsman and the structural engineer, and we were able to pull the project together in a seamless manner.

We are proud of the work that we did on this project, and we are excited to continue working with local craftsmen to design and build timber frame structures.

Historical Building Roof Replacement & Addition

The requirements for this project were strict, as the building was designated as a heritage building. This meant that we had to submit design concepts to the zoning and heritage board with the city for approval. Once the design was approved, we were able to complete the permit and construction drawings.

The work included removing the existing shed roof and deck structure, and building a new shed roof with a decorative wood gable dormer. This project greatly increased the curb appeal of the house and still fit in with the historic neighboring buildings. Additionally, the new deck structure below was enclosed as a 3-season porch, allowing for the merging of the interior and exterior space.

Here are some of the challenges that we faced on this project:

  • The building was designated as a heritage building, which meant that we had to follow strict guidelines for the design and construction of the project.
  • The project was located in a rural area, which made it difficult to access materials and labor.
  • The project was completed during the winter months, which made it challenging to work in the cold weather.

Despite these challenges, we were able to complete the project on time and within budget. We are proud of the work that we did on this project, and we are glad that we were able to help the client to improve their home.

Historical Building Fire Improvements

Another historical building which had been converted to apartments was up for sale. Unfortunately, the sale could not go through due to the outcome of a fire inspection. Over the years, the building had faced some degrading drywall and illegal renovations which the fire inspector and City deemed unsafe.

Elevation Drafting & Design was retained to site audit, provide direction and permit drawings for fire improvements to make this building safe. With a strong background in the Ontario Building Code, we provided the client with multiple options and assisted with pricing and bid analysis to determine the most cost-effective option.

The first step was to conduct a site audit to assess the current condition of the building and to identify any fire hazards. Once the audit was complete, we were able to develop a plan of action to address the fire hazards and to bring the building into compliance with the Ontario Building Code.

We provided the client with multiple options for fire improvements, and we assisted with pricing and bid analysis to determine the most cost-effective option. The client was able to choose an option that met their budget and that would make the building safe.

We are proud of the work that we did on this project, and we are glad that we were able to help the client to make their building safe.
